The key to staying organized for your wedding is taking the time to create a to-do check list so you don’t end up rushing to get everything done a couple months before your wedding date. Here is a sample check list but the length of your engagement will determine your particular schedule.
Nine Months Prior to the Wedding
- Create a wedding book where you can put ideas for your wedding dress, typically pages from bridal or fashion magazines. You can also keep your vendor research in the book for possible photographers, floral arrangements, etc.
- Establish a budget
- Determine who you want in your wedding party and get confirmations
- Begin working on your guest list, keeping in mind the budget you have set up
- Interview wedding planners
- Reserve your venue and the officiant as soon as possible.
Six Months Prior to the Wedding
- Select a photographer and/or videographer
- Interview caterers
- Buy your wedding dress so you have plenty of time for the necessary fittings
- Begin looking for bridesmaid’s dresses
- Book the entertainment if applicable
- If you have invited out of town guests, reserve their hotel rooms
- Choose the invitations and have them printed up
- Select a florist so they can put your wedding on their calendar
- If you need a limo, reserve it now
Three Months Prior to the Wedding
Create a wedding day schedule of events
Reserve the rehearsal venue if applicable
Make the rehearsal dinner reservation
Order the wedding cake
Register
Select the music you want to use during the ceremony
Book your wedding day hair and make-up appointments
Settle on a menu
Determine what, if any, centerpieces you want
Buy your bands
Eight Weeks Prior to the Wedding
Check in with all your vendors to make sure they are on track and there are no glitches
Mail out the invitations
Meet with the photographer
One Month Prior to the Wedding
- Plan your bachelorette party
- Follow-up on those who have not RSVP’d
- Apply for your marriage license
- Finalize the seating arrangement
- If applicable, write your vows
Week of the Wedding
Confirm with vendors
Have your dress pick-up or delivered
Send the final head count to the caterer
Send a wedding day agenda to the bridal party so they know where they need to be, when
If going on a honeymoon, pack in advance
